Funerals at St. John’s

The death of a loved one is always a difficult time. The ministrations of the church provide comfort and hope in a time of sorrow.

Here at St. John’s there are several alternatives:

  1. A funeral Mass with music and Holy Communion. Do not feel that this would make people from other churches or denominations uncomfortable; the Episcopal Church and therefore St. John’s welcomes all the baptized to Communion. There are no outcasts in Jesus’ house.
  2. The Prayer Book Office is another alternative. This is a beautiful service of readings and music. It is a shorter service but nonetheless uplifting.
  3. A funeral in a funeral home. The service would be the Prayer Book Office as described above.
  4. A graveside service. The service would take place at the cemetery and again would be the Prayer Book Office as described above.

At all of these services, there would be an opportunity for eulogies as the family would wish. The music would be chosen to give comfort to the family and to honor the wishes of the departed.

Finally, we believe that all ministrations of the church are without charge. We would be honored to walk you through this difficult time as a sign of Christ’s love and embrace of you and your family and friends.
